Museum dedicated to the traditional art of hand block printing, housed in a restored haveli (mansion) in Amber.
The Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing is a unique cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the centuries-old craft of hand block printing, for which Rajasthan is world-renowned. Located in a beautifully restored 17th-century haveli (mansion) in Amber, about 10 km from Jaipur city center, the museum was established in 2005 by the founders of Anokhi, a leading textile company.
The museum highlights the history, tools, techniques, and designs of hand block printing through an impressive collection of textiles, wooden printing blocks, and interactive displays. Visitors can explore the complete process of this traditional art form—from carving intricate wooden blocks and preparing fabrics to mixing natural dyes and applying the prints with precision.
The heritage haveli that houses the museum has been carefully restored using traditional methods and materials, earning multiple awards for architectural conservation. The restoration work preserved the authentic charm of the structure while adapting it into a functional space for exhibitions and education.
Along with its permanent displays, the museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions, live demonstrations, and workshops led by master artisans. There is also a small shop within the premises where visitors can purchase authentic block-printed textiles and related products, directly supporting local craftsmen and helping keep this traditional art alive.
