Jaipur's top attractions are clustered in and around the walled city, and the metro's eastern stations put you within striking distance of most of them. This guide maps every major tourist sight to its nearest metro station, gives you realistic walking times, and includes sample itineraries so you can plan a full sightseeing day without paying for expensive taxis.

Attractions Near Badi Chaupar Station

Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds)

Jaipur's most photographed monument is approximately 1.5 km from Badi Chaupar metro station. You have three options to get there: take the FB-04 feeder bus (₹15, about 10 minutes), walk through the vibrant walled city lanes (20 minutes, visually stunning but slow in summer), or grab an auto-rickshaw for ₹30 to ₹50. Hawa Mahal is open 9 AM to 5 PM daily. Entry fee is ₹50 for Indians and ₹200 for foreign nationals. The best photographs of the facade are taken from the road in front, ideally before 10 AM when the morning light hits the pink sandstone.

City Palace

City Palace is approximately 1.8 km from Badi Chaupar station. The FB-04 feeder bus passes near the entrance, or you can walk through Tripolia Bazaar and the inner walled city. The palace complex is open 9:30 AM to 5 PM. Entry costs ₹200 for Indians and ₹700 for foreigners (camera fee extra). Allow 2 to 3 hours for a proper visit. The Pitam Niwas Chowk with its four ornate gates is the highlight most visitors photograph.

Jantar Mantar Observatory

Located adjacent to City Palace, Jantar Mantar is walkable from the same feeder bus stop. This UNESCO World Heritage Site houses 19 astronomical instruments built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1734. Entry is ₹50 for Indians and ₹200 for foreign tourists. The Samrat Yantra (world's largest stone sundial) alone is worth the visit. A guided tour takes about 45 minutes and helps decode what the instruments actually measure.

Attractions Near Chandpole Station

Johari Bazaar (Jewelry Market)

Chandpole metro station puts you at the western edge of the walled city. Johari Bazaar, Jaipur's famous jewelry market, is about 1.2 km east along the main bazaar road. You can walk (15 minutes) or take the FB-03 feeder bus. The bazaar specialises in Kundan, Meenakari, and Polki jewelry. Best visited between 11 AM and 6 PM when most shops are open. Bargaining is expected and standard.

Tripolia Bazaar

Running parallel to Johari Bazaar, Tripolia Bazaar is Jaipur's textile and lacquer bangle market. Accessible from Chandpole station via the same walk or FB-03 route. Look for traditional Rajasthani textiles, lac bangles, and brass utensils. This market is less tourist-oriented than Johari Bazaar, which means better prices on everyday items.

Attractions Near Civil Lines Station

Central Museum (Albert Hall)

The Albert Hall Museum in Ram Niwas Garden is approximately 2 km south of Civil Lines station. An auto-rickshaw costs ₹40 to ₹60. The museum showcases Rajasthani art, pottery, metalwork, and an Egyptian mummy. Open 9 AM to 5 PM (closed on Fridays). Entry is ₹40 for Indians and ₹300 for foreign tourists. The building itself, designed by Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob, is architecturally stunning and beautifully lit at night.

Birla Mandir (Laxmi Narayan Temple)

This white marble temple is about 3 km from Civil Lines station. Take an auto for ₹50 to ₹70. Open 6 AM to 12 PM and 3 PM to 9 PM. No entry fee. The temple is particularly beautiful at sunset when the white marble catches the evening light. Evening aarti (prayer ceremony) is attended by both devotees and tourists.

Attractions Requiring Metro Plus Auto

Amer Fort (Amber Fort)

Amer Fort is 11 km from the nearest metro station (Chandpole). There is no direct metro or feeder bus connection. From Chandpole, take an auto-rickshaw (₹150 to ₹250) or book an Ola or Uber (₹120 to ₹200). The fort is open 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Entry is ₹100 for Indians and ₹500 for foreigners. Allow 3 to 4 hours for the fort and the surrounding Maota Lake area. The light and sound show in the evening is worth staying for if your schedule allows.

Nahargarh Fort

Perched on the Aravalli hills above the city, Nahargarh is about 6 km from Chandpole station. An auto costs ₹100 to ₹150 uphill. The fort offers panoramic views of Jaipur and is a popular sunset spot. Entry is ₹50 for Indians and ₹200 for foreigners. The on-site restaurant and cafe make it a good place to spend an evening.

Jal Mahal (Water Palace)

The water palace on Man Sagar Lake is visible from the Amer Fort road, about 8 km from Chandpole. You cannot enter the palace (it is being restored), but the lakeside viewing area and the road approach offer excellent photo opportunities. Combine this with your Amer Fort trip since it is on the same route.

  • 5:30 PM: Auto to Birla Mandir for sunset and evening aarti
  • 7:00 PM: Return to Civil Lines metro and ride back to your hotel area

Total metro cost for this day: approximately ₹50 to ₹70. Add ₹100 to ₹150 for autos and ₹30 for the feeder bus. The entire day's transport budget stays under ₹250, compared to ₹800 to ₹1,200 for a full-day tourist taxi.

Two-Day Extended Itinerary

Day 1 follows the itinerary above covering the walled city sights. Day 2 focuses on the hilltop forts:

  • Morning: Metro to Chandpole, auto to Amer Fort (3 to 4 hours)
  • Afternoon: Jal Mahal photo stop on the way back, then auto to Nahargarh Fort for sunset
  • Evening: Return to Chandpole, metro back to hotel area

For Day 2, consider hiring a full-day auto or taxi (₹800 to ₹1,500) since the forts are off the metro corridor and multiple auto rides add up.

Key Highlights

  • 1Badi Chaupar station is your base for Hawa Mahal, City Palace, and Jantar Mantar
  • 2Chandpole station opens access to Johari Bazaar and the walled city markets
  • 3A full sightseeing day by metro costs under ₹250 in transport
  • 4Amer Fort requires auto from Chandpole (₹150 to ₹250, no direct metro)
  • 5FB-04 feeder bus from Badi Chaupar to Hawa Mahal replaces an ₹80 auto ride for ₹15

Practical Tips

  • Start sightseeing early, many monuments open at 9 AM and the light for photography is best before 11 AM
  • Carry a refillable water bottle as walking between attractions in summer gets hot quickly
  • Buy a Tourist Card if doing the full-day itinerary since unlimited rides make the math simple
  • Combine Amer Fort, Jal Mahal, and Nahargarh in one auto trip to save money on Day 2
  • The rooftop cafes opposite Hawa Mahal serve decent food with a direct facade view, worth the slight premium
