Not all metro stations are built equal. A large interchange station like Civil Lines has facilities you won't find at a smaller mid-line stop. Knowing what's available where helps you plan - whether that's making sure you can withdraw cash before a long day of sightseeing, or knowing which station has a decent food kiosk for a quick snack.
The Tier System: How Stations Differ
Jaipur Metro's 11 stations can be loosely grouped into three tiers by amenity level:
- Full-service stations (Civil Lines, Chandpole, Badi Chaupar, Mansarovar) - ATMs, food kiosks, retail kiosks, drinking water, accessible toilets, large waiting areas, feeder bus connections, auto-rickshaw stands.
- Mid-service stations (New Gate, Sindhi Camp, Shyam Nagar, Ram Nagar) - Drinking water, accessible toilets, waiting area, auto stand outside. Usually no ATM or food kiosk on the platform level.
- Basic stations (smaller mid-line stops) - Security, ticketing, basic seating, accessible toilet, and a small waiting area. Limited retail or food options.
ATMs
ATMs are installed inside or immediately adjacent to the following stations: Civil Lines, Mansarovar, Chandpole, and Badi Chaupar. At other stations, the nearest ATM is typically within 200–500 metres of the station exit on the main road. If you need cash for a feeder bus or auto-rickshaw, withdraw at Civil Lines or Chandpole - both have multiple ATMs (SBI, HDFC, ICICI) on the station concourse.
Drinking Water
All 11 stations have at least one drinking water point on the concourse level. These are filtered water dispensers maintained by station housekeeping. The dispensers at major stations (Civil Lines, Chandpole) are replenished more frequently and are generally more reliable. Carry a refillable bottle - the dispensers use push-button tap mechanisms compatible with standard bottle mouths.
Food and Beverages
Hot food is available only at a handful of stations. Civil Lines has the widest selection - a small food court area with chai stalls, samosa vendors, and packaged snack kiosks. Chandpole and Badi Chaupar have one or two kiosks each. Mansarovar has a tea stall near the main entrance.
At mid-tier and basic stations, you're looking at vending machines (bottled water, packaged snacks) at best. For a proper meal, plan to exit the station and find food in the surrounding streets.
Accessible Toilets
Accessible (wheelchair-compatible) toilets are available at all 11 stations on the concourse level. Standard toilets (separate male/female) are at all stations. Cleanliness standards vary - major stations are cleaned more frequently (roughly every 2 hours during peak hours). Minor stations may be cleaned 3–4 times daily.
Seating and Waiting Areas
All stations have platform seating along the platform edge. Covered waiting areas with seating are at full-service stations. Civil Lines has an air-conditioned waiting lounge - useful during peak summer months when platform temperatures can be uncomfortable. Basic stations have open benches that provide shade but no cooling.
Vehicle Parking
Dedicated parking is available at: Civil Lines, Mansarovar, Chandpole. Civil Lines has the largest parking lot (can accommodate 200+ two-wheelers and 50+ cars). Mansarovar also has significant parking capacity given its role as the western terminal. Other stations have limited or no official parking - informal two-wheeler parking happens on adjacent streets but is at your own risk.
Cycle and Two-Wheeler Parking
Covered cycle parking racks are at Mansarovar, Civil Lines, and Chandpole. This is particularly relevant for the "cycle to metro" commute that is increasingly popular in Jaipur's western residential areas. Locks are not provided - bring your own.
Auto-Rickshaw and Cab Stands
Every station has an auto-rickshaw stand just outside the exit - this is a standard feature regardless of station tier. Pre-paid auto booths (fixing the fare in advance) are available at Civil Lines and Chandpole. At other stations, you negotiate the fare directly with the driver - use the meter or agree on a fixed price before boarding.
